Washington Capitals

This team was picked by many to be in the top spot of the Eastern conference and to this point in the season they have been nothing short of excellent.

The Capitals have posted a league best 46-14-9 record on the season and have been dominant in the process outscoring their opponents by an incredible 75 goals on the season. To put that number into perspective the next closest team in the conference has won their game by a combined twenty goals…That is a 55 goal difference!

This team is nothing short of dominant, led by Alex Ovechkin, Russian phenom, they have the firepower and decent goaltending necessary to make some noise on the way to the Stanley Cup. Ovechkin has been great this year, leading the NHL in points at 96, and posting the second most goals scored in the league at 44, just one behind fellow start Sidney Crosby.

Ovechkin and Jeff Shultz of the Capitals show their true value as you see that those two players have the highest +/- in the league, a stat to show what teams perform better while certain players are on the ice.

One of the major keys to their success so far in the season has been their ability to capitalize on the power play. They have had the 6th most power play opportunities in the league at 271, but have managed to put it in the net in nearly twenty six percent of their opportunities, by far the highest in the league. This has added up to 70 goals on the season, which leads the NHL.
