Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks have surprised many this year. They were picked by most to be a playoff team, but they were by no means expected to win their division. This being said, they have been strong this year, leading the Northwest division standings by three points (they have 89 total points) with a 43-24-3 record at this point in the season.
Though they have the 4th best record in the league, a division win would allow them to be a 3rd seed in the playoffs. This is very important for this squad as they have suffered 16 of their 24 losses on the season while playing road games.
A road record like that is far from a good formula for a successful playoff team, because they will need to win a few big games on the road even if they do secure home rink advantage in the playoffs. You can’t expect to win the Championship without a solid road effort.
The Canucks have been rather dominant throughout the season, as they have put up a goal differential of +49 goals this year. Henrik Sedin has been an absolute star for the team on the season, racking up 94 points thus far putting up 28 goals and a huge 66 assists. Even with several games still remaining he has already had the best statistical season of his career. He will be a key to their success as he has helped the team to score 32 more points than their opponents when he is out on the ice.
As it gets later in the season and playoff time is right around the corner, we start to see who the players are that can carry a team. He has the chance to show his ability to do this as the Canucks gear up for the post season. They will make the playoffs, and hopefully give a good run while they are at it.
