Toronto Maple Leafs

There are a bunch of struggling teams all clumped together with similar record and point totals in the Eastern Conference…and then there are the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs are far and away sporting the worst record in the Eastern Conference this season and look to have very little consolation outside of the fact that they are shaping themselves up to receive a good pick in this off-season’s draft.

This season has been quite a disappointment for the Maple Leafs. They were predicted to be a team that would fight to be a playoff contender, and though most thought they would likely be on the outside I don’t believe that anyone thought they’d end up in the cellar of the conference… especially by such a vast margin.

They have been outscored by 51 goals so far this season, giving up a conference worst 234 goals on the season.

The only thing the Maple Leafs look to be fighting for in this year is the worst record in the NHL, which they are slightly better than the awful Edmonton Oilers this year. The lone bright spot for the Maple Leafs this year has been that they have put up a 14-14-5 record in front of their home crowd this year (if anyone is still watching them).

They have a long off season to look forward to where they’d do well pick up some players in free agency and hopefully they can draft a rookie that can make an instant impact on a poor team.
