Phoenix Coyotes

The Phoenix Coyotes have really been turning it on as of late, winning their last 6 games. They have really been coming on at the best time of the season. With a strong finish this year, they could sneak their way into the lead of the Pacific Division Standings.  They have surpasses expectations and become a sort of wild card in the league.

The Coyotes are fighting to get a home rink advantage for the playoffs, because they have played so well at home throughout the entire season. The weakness in the Coyotes team structure is no secret. While they sport the best defensive effort in the league, only allowing just 170 goals so far on the season, they have really struggled on the offensive end all year. This begins with the power play.

It’s very uncommon to see a team with such a good record (43-22-5) struggle so much on the power play.  Incredibly, they have produced the worst conversion rate in the entire NHL offensively on the power play, converting just 14.9 percent of the time.

The Coyotes have been one of the most clutch teams in the NHL this season thus far, playing in a lot of close games. Without the firepower to put teams away (evidenced by their outscoring teams by only 19 goals on the season) they have had a lot of experience in close games which will prepare them for tough series in this year’s playoffs.

Consider the fact that they are 19 games over .500 while only outscoring their opponents by 19 goals. This is a team that plays on the edge, and could bring a lot of upsets come playoff time.
