Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are probably as impressive a 6th best team in the league can be this year as they outscored their opponents by 18 goals this year. To put that number into perspective, the 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference, the Pittsburgh Penguins have only outscored their opponents by 20 goals so far on the season.

They have been solid especially as of late putting up a 6-3-1 record in the last 10 games, improving their season record to 36-28-4(wins-losses-overtime losses) on the season.

There is still plenty of hockey to be played this season, and they could potentially move up or move out of the playoffs and they will need a solid finish to the season in order to ensure a position in the playoffs. The Flyers are sitting right about where they were expected to be on the season so far. Nobody expected them to pass up the New Jersey Devils or the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Atlantic Division, but they were expecting to make the playoffs this year.

They have recently been led by Michael Leighton, acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes and the change has been night and day for Leighton. In the first part of the season with Carolina he was giving up on average more than 4 goals a game. However in his last 25 starts with the Flyers he has been excellent. He has posted a 16-5-2 record with a mere 2.42 goals allowed per game in his time in the net.

The Flyers will really need to services as the season ends. If he can continue on with the success he has had over the last 25 games the Flyers have the potential to take down any team in the NHL.
