Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators sit in the 2nd position in the Northeast Division of the Eastern conference 37-27-5 record on the season.
They are only 3 points behind the Sabres in the standings but also have solid teams like the Montreal Canadians and the Boston Bruins hot on their tails. The Senators will need to continue tough in order to compete with the Senators and hold off the other teams in their division.
This team has been a surprise to many, as many people believed that this team would be the first team out of the playoff picture(the 9th team in the Eastern conference). Instead this team looks to be a lock for a playoff spot and has a chance to even take a home advantage in the first round of the playoffs if they can put together a streak here to finish the season.
The Senators are led by a solid goaltender in Brian Elliott (2.56 goals against average 23-15-5 record .909 save percentage in 2009-2010 season). Elliott is only in his 2nd season as a goaltender who actually gets play time but has been solid, improving in his goals against and save percentage. He has also had 3 shutouts on the season, which is 2 more than last season in only 8 more starts.
On the offensive end Daniel Alfredsson has been solid for the senators at the Right Wing position putting out 17 goals and 37 assists, while Milan Michalek has been solid at the Left Wing position, scoring 22 goals so far on the season.
This team has already exceeded expectations and really has an opportunity to be a Cinderella story in this season’s quest for the Stanley cup. This is really just a great story waiting to happen.
