New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils have the third best point total so far in the Eastern Conference(85 points) behind a 41-24-3 record, sitting right on the tail of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the race for the Atlantic Division.

This team is led by the great goaltending of sixteen year veteran Martin Brodeur. It’s easy to stay in games night in and night out when you have such a solid goaltender to keep you in the game at all times. So far on the season Brodeur has had a league second best 7 shutouts and has posted a 2.35 goals against average so far on the season. The total number of goals scored against the Devils, one hundred and sixty four, is far and away the lowest number in the Eastern Conference so far on the season.

This team is a different mold than the other top two teams in the Eastern Conference so far. While the Capitals and Penguins rely on the likes of Ovechkin and Crosby to lead an offensive attack, the Devils have only scored 183 goals on the season, tied for the 8th most in the Eastern Conference.

The key to this team making noise in the playoffs this year will be how they can gather themselves together on the road. Its tough to be a defensive team on the road. They have shown that they can win games at home, posting a 2nd best(in the East) 23-9-1 record at home so far, but have only been able to post a 18-15-2 record on road games so far.

If this team is to contend, they need to pick up those games on the road and figure a way to score some more goals while Brodeur is in the net.
