Columbus Blue Jackets
The playoff competition in the Western Conference is still a pretty tight race until you get to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Coming off of a less than impressive regular season, they don’t look to have any chances of making the playoffs this year. They currently have 28 wins and 31 losses and only have a total of 67 points.
The current eighth seed in the West is the Detroit Red Wings. They are 13 points ahead of the Blue Jackets, and look to stay that way for the last few remaining weeks.
Columbus is on a one game win streak right now, but the rest of the season is now just a practice ground for the team’s up and coming talent. They have even made moves to cut their current AHL affiliation with the Springfield Crunch in order to get the Syracuse Falcons and bring in some better prepared players.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have already been looking to make changes to their current team by signing Matt Calvert to a standard three year contract. He has been playing for the Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League and has accumulated 47 goals and around 52 assists in that league. He will be working alongside R.J. Umberger and Kristian Huselius to try and take this team to the next level.
Although the post season looks dismal for the Blue Jackets, you can look for them to get a decent pick in the NHL draft, make a few trades, and hopefully bring together some chemistry for this next season.
