Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames are right on the verge of breaking the playoff barrier and getting into the eighth spot in the NHL Western Conference. The Detroit Red Wings are currently in eighth place and have 80 points, only one point ahead of the Flames.
Calgary has a record of 35-26-9, and are currently ninth overall in the West. The Flames are coming off of a one game win streak and are looking to gain some momentum to make a push over these last few weeks of regular season play.
The Flames just beat the Colorado Avalanche, which has really given them some confidence that they can beat big teams. Eric Nystrom has continued to help the team out in a pinch and has scored some key goals throughout the season.
Bourque has also been an offensive factor, as the Flames have crept around some of the bigger teams. He was a big factor in the team’s win over Colorado and is optimistic about the last few games of the season. Goaltender Vesa Toskala was just picked up from Anaheim a few weeks ago and he has already had 32 saves since being with the Flames.
The Calgary Flames had some high expectations at the beginning of the season and although they haven’t quite achieved them so far, there is still some time to make a statement in the league. If they can continue to make big plays in big games there is a chance they can beat out the Red Wings and get into the playoffs.
