Atlanta Thrashers

The Atlanta Thrashers are currently playing their way out of the playoffs. After losing 6 games in a row they find themselves sinking further and further away from the playoffs. At 67 points they are 5 out of the playoff picture and need wins now if they are going to go anywhere.

One of the biggest struggles for the Thrashers has been capitalizing on the power play. They converted less than 17 percent of their power plays while allowing goals nearly 20 percent of the time. A playoff team should not be losing that battle and they need to improve in that area if they are going to do anything with the rest of their season.

The next couple of games will dictate where this season goes for the Thrashers. If they can’t win the next couple of games it may be time shift gears and begin to develop younger players.

If they are to make a run something will have to change with their goaltending. Both of their goaltenders, Johan Hedberg and Ondrej Pavelec, have simply not been able to do the job needed to win games recently. Through the season Hedberg had been solid at times and needs to get back in form or the Thrashers will find themselves at home for the playoffs hoping for a solid draft pick.

All of this being said, the Thrashers have actually overperformed to many people’s standard. They were predicted by many to be in the cellar or 2nd to worst in the Eastern Conference but instead find themselves in playoff contention (though they are slipping).
