New Jersey Devils visit Detroit Red Wings in NHL play Wednesday
The New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings will square off this Wednesday as we draw nearer to the All-Star game. The Red Wings are enjoying a lot of success this season at 29-13-6. The Devils have not been nearly as fortunate and have only managed a record of 16-29-3 this season.
The Devils are dead last in the Eastern Conference and have shown little hope of turning things around for the second half of the season. The biggest issue for the Devils has been their offensive attack.
The Devils are averaging just 2.0 goals per game this season. This is a full goal less than they allow per game. The problems start with their power play. The Devils are 24th in the league and score just 15.2 percent of the time on the power play. If they hope to steal this one from the Red Wings they will need to turn things around on the power play.
The Red Wings have a stellar offensive attack that should be able to capitalize on the poor defense that they will face against New Jersey. They are averaging 3.4 goals per game to this point in the season. The offense of the Red Wings is led by Henrik Zetterberg. Zetterberg has 52 points on the season and has dished out 36 assists.
The Red Wings are 2nd in the Western Conference and need to continue to win games if they hope to keep pace with Vancouver. They are currently 3 points behind Vancouver in the Western Conference standings.
