Pittsburgh Penguins visit rival Washington Capitals

The Pittsburgh Penguins will square off against the Washington Capitals in Washington this Thursday. These two teams are two of the top teams in the league and this should be a great matchup. Not only is this a game between two of the best teams in the league, but it is also a game between two of the best players in the league.

Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin dominated the league last year and many expected both of these players to continue their dominance this season. Crosby has been as advertised this year, but Ovechkin appears to be a different player this season. After having 3 straight seasons of 50 goals or more, he has only scored 12 times in 36 games this season.

This game will be important for the confidence of Ovechkin. If he can out duel Crosby in this game he may be able to get back on track to become the dominant player that he was in years past. The Capitals need him to be a top flight player if they are to compete in the playoffs this season.

The Penguins have been great on offense and defense. They are 6th in the NHL or better in both goals per game and goals against per game. They also have the best penalty kill percentage in the NHL.

The Capitals are 9th in the league in goals per game at 3.0 on the season. They have been solid on defense as well, allowing 2.7 goals per game. This game will really test them as the Penguins are one of the most talented teams in the NHL.
