Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings clash in Original 6 NHL matchup
If you are a true hockey fan then you will love the match up that is in store on Friday night between two of Hockey’s most storied franchises, the Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens. It is always a treat when both of these original six teams square off on the ice as it does not happen all that often, only twice per season.
Both teams come into the contest with outstanding records and are actually only separated in the standings by 1 point. However, the Red Wings do have 2 games in hand over Montreal while maintaining that slim 1 point lead. Both teams lead their respective divisions making this one of the early season marquee match ups even if both teams weren’t members of the original six.
You can expect a good match up of contrasting styles as the Red Wings will bring the number one offense based on goals scored per game against the number two overall defense in the league based on goals allowed per game. The Wings are still averaging 3.4 goals per contest while the Canadiens allow a stingy 2.0 goals per game.
This game will be the third of a three game home stand for the Detroit Red Wings who have one of the best home records so far this season with a 10-4-2 mark. With the offensive firepower of the Red Wings, and usually stellar performances at Joe Louis Arena, this may be a difficult game for Montreal to win come Friday night.
