Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets meet in Central division battle
A pivotal match up in the Central division is set for Friday night the Columbus Blue Jackets will welcome the Detroit Red Wings into Nationwide Arena.
NHL Betting Odds have not yet been posted for this key divisional matchup.
This contest will pit the top two teams in the division against each other, with Detroit holding a slim 2-point lead. While Detroit and Columbus battle for the top spot in the division, both teams have a chance to pull away from Chicago and Nashville with a couple good weeks of hockey. This makes this game between the two teams so important.
Detroit has been fueled by a recent scoring surge, which has moved them up to the number one overall ranking for goals per game with a 3.7 average. Add in the stellar defense the Red Wings have been known for and it is easy to see why Detroit continues to be one of the best teams in the NHL.
Columbus has been on a mini tear of their own winning 4 straight and 7 of their last 9 games. Unlike the Red Wings who use their potent offense to their advantage, the Blue Jackets have been relying on their defense and goal tending to get the job done. Columbus currently sits 3rd overall in Goals Against per game averaging 2.3, while just scoring 2.8 goals per game on average.
The game on Friday is the first of a home and home series that will see the same two teams square off at Joe Louis Arena on Sunday evening. Two wins here will go a long way in the division race once April rolls round.
