NHL Playoffs Preview: Red Wings-Sharks Game 2

On Thursday night, in San Jose, Joe Pavelski led the San Jose Sharks to victory over the Detroit Red Wings in the first game of their second round series. Pavelski scored three goals and San Jose held on for a 4-3 victory over the Red Wings.

Pavelski scored a goal, as did Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi, for the Sharks in the first period.

The three goals were scored within a span of seventy-nine seconds. The three goals, in one minute nineteen seconds, were the fastest in Sharks playoff history. Detroit made the score 3-2 but in the third period Pavelski scored his second goal, a five on three power play goal, and the Sharks would prevail 4-3. Dan Cleary, Johan Franzen, Brian Rafalski scored for the Red Wings.

The second game is also in San Jose on Sunday night. Son Jose played without their regular season leading scorer, Patrick Marleau. He was scratched because of an illness and is still listed as day to day. If San Jose wants to finally advance past the second round, Patrick Marleau must get healthy. He plays on the Sharks’ top line and they must produce.

Some still consider Detroit the favorites because of their playoff experience. The San Jose Sharks are considered playoff underachievers who have yet to make it past the second round. If Detroit wants too win the series, they must improve their power play. The Sharks were able to hold them 0 for 5 on the power play.
