Blackhawks vs. Canucks – Western Conference Finals – Game 6 – Preview

In game six, Chicago’s decisive 5-1 win means that they have earned a meeting with the hot San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Finals.

Luongo and the Canucks were poised for a comeback, after a dominating performance in game five, winning 4-1 and bringing the series to a respectable 3-2. Momentum was on their side, they were playing on their home ice in an elimination game.

Goalie Roberto Luongo stopped all 12 of the first period shots he faced and came out on fire again. When the Hawks scored two goals, with only 36 seconds apart, the Canucks had unraveled early in the second period.

Troy Brouwer redirected a pass from Patrick Sharp past Luongo and into the right corner of the net, two minutes into the second period. In the third, the Hawks added another goal, on a Dave Bolland breakaway, bringing the score to 3-0. It was time for Vancouver to panic.

With a goal from Kesler and Burrows at 3:44, Shane O’Brien brought the Canucks some light early in the third, but Chicago struck right back with two goals from Kane and Byfuglien 25 seconds aper to put the game out of reach.

Vancouver never had a chance.
