Philadelphia Flyers at Montreal Canadiens Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadians are set to square off this Saturday in a match between two heated Eastern Conference rivals. The game has significant playoff implications as both teams are just a few points ahead of being out of playoff contention.

The 7th place Flyers, who have played 57 games, have 61 points and sit just 2 points ahead of the 9th place Boston Bruins.

The Canadians, who have played 60 games, are just one point and one spot ahead of the Flyers in the Eastern Conference.

The two teams appear to be headed towards a long playoff race that should last the remainder of the regular season. Presently, there are 7 teams within 5 points of each other, with only three available playoff spots within a realistic reach.

On Saturday, the Canadians will be led by Tomas Plekanec, who leads the team with 58 points and 43 assists. His 43 assists place him 7th in the NHL. The Flyers are led by Jeff Carter, who leads the team with 23 goals.

The Saturday game is the second game between the two rivals in as many nights. On Friday, the two teams square off in Philadelphia. The only previous meeting between these two teams occurred on December 7, when the Canadians beat the Flyers 3 to 1.
