Hockey Action in Vancouver
So far the ice hockey action in Vancouver has been some of the most exciting we’ve seen at the Olympics.
Men’s hockey action got off to a hot start on the 16th of February as in Group A, the United States beat the Swiss team by a score of 3 ~ 1. The American team had goals by Bobby Ryan in the 1st period, while David Backes and Ryan Malone scored in the 2nd period, with Malone’s goal being on the power play. The 3rd period had Switzerland’s only goal, by Roman Wick.
Also in Group A, Canada thundered past Norway by a final of 8 ~ 0. Goals were scored in the 2nd period by Jarome Iginla, and Mike Richards. The 3rd period would be a scoring explosion by Canada as Iginla scored a hat trick, Corey Perry would score a goal and Dany Headley would score twice in this period.
Group B action also started as the Russian Federation took down the Latvian team by a score of 8 ~ 2. Goals were scored by Danis Zaripov, Alexander Radulov and Alexander Ovechkin in the 1st period. The 2nd period had one goal scored by Evgeni Malkin on the power play. The 3rd period would have Russians Ovechkin and Zaripov with their second goals, also two more goals were scored, one by Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexei Morozov. The Latvian team had 3rd period goals by Herberts Vasiljevs and Girts Ankipans.
The action will get even more intense as on the 17th, we will have Group C action as Finland takes on Belarus, and Sweden takes on Germany. Group B will also have a game as the Czech Republic will take on Slovakia.
Then on the 18th, the USA will take on Norway, Canada will face against the Switzerland and Russia will face Slovakia.
The 19th will have Belarus take on Sweden, the Czech Republic will take on Latvia and Finland will face Germany.
The 20th will see Norway face Switzerland, Latvia will square off against Slovakia and Germany will face Belarus.
The final day of the preliminary match is the 21st where we will see the USA face Canada, Russia will face the Czech Republic and Finland will face Sweden. So stay tuned for the best action from all over the world in Vancouver.
